Phew, so…
Today, as some of you may know, was my endoscopy.
If you didn’t know, here’s why: I sometimes am in a good amount of pain after eating certain foods, mostly pertaining to anything with this special protein found in gluten. Gluten is a major protein in things like wheat, flour, barley, rye, et cetera. A common cause to the pain referred to as Celiac Disease. (more info here)
My grandmother has this intolerance to gluten, which is why it would make sense that I have it. A week ago I had a really bad “episode,” if you will, which I had believed to have been caused by the disease(intolerance). So I went to a gastroenterologist and he ordered blood work and the endoscopy. (side note, this doctor said he doesn’t think its the disease.) Now that you’re caught up, here we go.
So I haven’t heard on the blood work but got some info from the endoscopy. Turns out I have acute gastritis and duodenitis. Apparently there’s some kind of thickness at the start of my intestine. Dunno exactly what that means, but during the procedure they took multiple biopsies. So now I have 7-10 days until those results come back from the lab. I’ll find out more then and I’ll post what I hear, for those of you who want to know. The doctor who did the endoscopy also said that it is still possible that I do in fact have Celiac disease. Not saying I do, though. We just have to wait and see!
